We are Ready for Match Day Two of the 2023 Season

The second match-day of the 2023 Kenya Hockey season is set to take place on the 15th and 16th of April, featuring three premier league clashes.

In the Men’s Premier league, the match day will begin with defending champions Butali Sugar facing off against Sikh Union Nairobi at the City Park Stadium. Butali Sugar will be looking to continue their winning streak after securing victory in the first match of their title defense. Strathmore University will host the sailors on Sunday from 4 pm, followed by Kenya Police testing Greenshark’s resolve at 6 pm.

In the only women premier league match of the weekend, Strathmore University Ladies will play against Amira Sailors on Sunday from 2 pm. Strathmore University will be seeking to bounce back after winning one and losing one match in the opening weekend.

In the women’s Super league, Twinkle Hockey Club will host GHF Pirate Ladies on Saturday from 12 pm at the City Park Stadium. The Pirates will play host to Sliders from 3 pm at the Greensteds Stadium. On Sunday, Nakuru Ladies will host Sliders Hockey Club in the only Super League match of the day.

KHU has further announced rescheduling, due to the disruption, of some of the league fixtures by the elements of nature, specifically rain, during the previous weekend, as well as the need to facilitate the smooth running of the International Vaisakhi tournament. These affected fixtures include all day 1 match fixtures as well as match no. 40: Black Tigresses vs Twinkle Hockey Club.

Scores and match updates for this weekend’s matches will be available on the Kenya Hockey Union website and social media handles as the matches proceed.

Hockey in Kenya continues to gain popularity and has become a prominent sport, especially among young people. Overall, the 2023Kenyan hockey season promises to be an exciting one, with several teams eager to prove themselves as contenders for the championship title.
